Wool Week 2016 - Campaign For Wool Student Hand Knitting Awards

2016, 100% Wool

(Excerpt from show biography) ‘Although working primarily with hand knitting, this garment is Alice’s first foray into knitwear design, having previously worked primarily within fine art fields. She took inspiration from the architecture of fisherman’s huts on Norway’s Lofoten Islands when designing this garment, with the bright red ribbing intended to mimic the contrasting yet complimentary colours of the houses on the islands. She has also employed a gradient of ten neutral colours, (most of those natural) to represent the differing colours and textures of the natural environment. Alice has worked an intricate cable motif for the large proportion of her garment, as a means of both mimicking the textures of the rugged landscape and creating a lofty, warm fabric in honour of Scandinavian traditions.’
